Privacy should not require an upload

Metadataless is a collection of browser-based tools for understanding and removing hidden file information.

Why this site exists

Photos, documents, and videos often include useful technical information that becomes a privacy risk when an original file is shared. Many cleanup services ask users to upload the same sensitive file they are trying to protect. Metadataless takes a different approach: the processing code comes to your browser, and the file remains on your device.

How the tools work

The site is statically generated and has no account system, upload API, database, or server-side file processor. Supported formats are inspected and rewritten with browser JavaScript. The interface explains detected fields and reports unsupported formats rather than claiming a cleanup that did not occur.

What local processing does not mean

Metadata removal cannot change information already posted elsewhere, erase copies held by another person, or guarantee that every classifier and pixel-level watermark will stop recognizing a file. Keep original files when their catalog or evidentiary metadata matters, and verify cleaned copies before sensitive use.
